Began responsibility for safety and loss control in 1962 first as an Industrial Relations Manager for Houdaille Industries then Masco Corporation. Served as Safety and Security Director for Stroh Brewery Company from 1974 to 1989. At Stroh’s was responsible for injury loss control, industrial hygiene, workers compensation, developing safety programs, training and standards compliance, and managed a security staff of 150 locally and contract security at other locations in six states. President/CEO of the Safety Council for Southeast Michigan from 1989 to 2006. Retired from full time work with the Safety Council and is now Ambassador and Board Member.
President of Safety and Loss Control, Inc. which helps companies improve their profits by injury and illness reduction through education and prevention methods and develops training programs, safety procedures and pamphlets.
A Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. He has served on ANSI and SME Standards writing committees for Confined Space, Powered Industrial Trucks and Mechanical and Hydraulic Power Presses.
Serves on the Industrial Advisory Committee for the Oakland University Health Sciences Department.
Appointed by Governor John Engler in 1992 to Chairman of the MIOSHA Board of Safety and Health Compliance and Appeals and continued to serve under Governor Jennifer Granholm until 2006.
Recipient of the National Safety Council Distinguished Service to Safety Award and The Michigan Safety Conference Distinguished Service to Safety Award and other awards from ASSE and other professional organizations. Received three Community Service Awards from the Detroit City Council, Detroit Fire Dept., and Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Served as Chief Officer in many national and local professional and community organizations including the Michigan Safety Conference, Junior Chamber of Commerce, the National Safety Management Society and others. Chair of numerous conferences and Chair/Co-Chair since 1974 for the Breakfast with the Detroit Fire Department.
He appears bi-weekly on a radio show called Speaking of Senior Strategies on WNZK 690 AM concerning safety and health issues for seniors. Has appeared on television programs locally on a variety of topics and CNN nationally about car safety seats for children and written about in AP releases. Appeared as a presenter at the National Safety Congress and for a number of other conferences and events. Appeared as host on ONTV Cable show in Lake Orion.
He authored training materials and is the Editor of the Safety Section of the American Senior Gazette Newspaper. Ed authored articles in the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Detroiter Magazine, trade newsletters and other magazines and has articles written about safety and security programs he conducted in: Brewers Digest, MIOSHA Labor register, Occupational Hazards Magazine, ASIS Security Management Magazine and Food and Beverage Newsletters. He CoChairs the Annual Breakfast for the Detroit Fire Department, is a member of the Metro Detroit Youth Day Committee an event for 30,000 children
He attended Michigan State University and performed in the Concert and Marching Band and Wayne State where set up first intercollegiate bowling tournament. Was in The U.S. 7th Army Symphony Orchestra and the Army Jazz Band in Europe, Has bowled a 300 game and is active in community, fraternal and church organizations.
